A Lazy, But Tactical Genius in battle, They don't share the look from the outside, But on the inside, They're as deadly as you can get, And you need to always keep an eye out for their next move. Despite Never utilizing their main ability beyond a basic level, Overtime they learned to use this power for the better, and play it right in their favour.

Overtime, Through grief and many losses, Including their mentors, father/figures and seeing those close to them suffer, This part of their lives serve as a catalyst for the better, assisting the future generation in their own battles for the better, But their mindset to strategize and outsmart the rest might not be able to always help them, Who's trickier battle style will help them here? Will Shikamaru's brains and genius help him topple this Joestar, Or will Joseph predicts Shikamaru's next line and defeat?

What Will Be Used...
For both, Both series' have been around for a long time, However for both, It would be easier to stick to canon material, For Joseph, We will be sticking to the Original Manga + The Anime adaptation of the series, I could not really gain access to any JoJo data books that would be relevant enough for Joseph either (sorry!) 

For Shikamaru, He will be given stuff from the Original Manga, The Anime Adaptation and The Various canon novels (Shinden Novels), The only movies that will be taken into account will be Naruto: The Last + Boruto: The Movie, as these are the only canon movies to the series, Storm scaling will also not be taken into account.

One More Thing
This blog was being written even before the Giorno Vs Joker G1, Which kinda did a huge diddle on Jojo's scaling, So some of the scaling (particularly in the AP section) you might find might be contentious, Whether you buy these feats or not is up to you, Some of it may be addressed as it would save more time than completely wiping out some of the scaling

Shikamaru Nara
"What A Drag..."

What of who would later become the Future 8th Hokage, Shikamaru Nara is the only child of Yoshino & Shikaku Nara. Born In the village of Konohagakure, Shikamaru was a naturally lazy child And had a strong inclination to do little to any work as possible, Calling it out as troublesome or a drag, It was things like these that led to his poor grades in the Ninja Academy, Not even bothering to answer questions on tests and sleeping in class, It wouldn't be wrong to assume everyone figured he was an idiot.

But behind all of this was naturally gifted talent for intelligence, Despite His laziness, Shikamaru's Intellect was something not natural, Having an IQ of over 200, This intelligence is something very helpful to him, and dangerous to his foes, Being able to strategize plans for a battle, Outsmart his opponents, And lead his allies to victory, Its these accomplishments that has landed him titles such as the smartest person in Konoha, And overtime, Lead to his inauguration as Hokage.

Shikamaru's Genius is something that can protect him even from the most dangerous of situations. Inheriting the will of fire from his sensei, Asuma Sarutobi, This pushes him to protect those closest to him, Allies Or Friends, And it's something worth protecting, Like something he learnt back then: The King are the children of the village, Those who will protect the will of fire in the future generations, and even if it pains him and goes against his lazy attitude, Its these qualities that helps him lead his allies to victory and protect his village, As its his own responsibility to protect and guide the future generation of the leaf.

"Your Next Line Is..."

A young, hot-headed, impetuous, and confrontational young man, Joseph Joestar was Born the son of George Joestar II & Elizabeth Joestar, Albiet not knowing this due to not growing up with either present in his life, And thus raised under the care of Erina Pendleton & Robert E.O. Speedwagon, From a young age, Joseph was quick to get violent in confrontations, Becoming Hostile at the slightest provocation and even winded up getting expelled from school, Being the playful person he is, You'd think his future wouldn't be all that bright.

Even from a young age, Joseph developed and was able to use Hamon, Inherited from his Grandfather Jonathan, First displaying it to protect Speedwagon from a Group of Hijackers on a plane (This is very pivotal to how untrustworthy Joseph would be as a pilot) And over the years, Learning how to utilize it, Albiet not properly, as he only knew so much about it.

Joseph would later go on a trip to Mexico to find out on Speedwagon's Supposed "Death" Only to run into a Grave Threat while rescuing Speedwagon From the Nazis: The Pillar Men, An ancient species. A Now nearly extinct, But dangerous race of superhumans Who would pose as a massive wall in Joseph's Journey, Together with Caesar Antonio Zeppeli, Another Hamon User, They would train under another Hamon User, Lisa Lisa, Someone that, while he may not know it, Has a mysterious connection to Joseph's Past, And Walah, Lisa Lisa is actually Elizabeth Joestar, Joseph's Mother!

Despite Losing Caesar in battle against The Pillar Men, Joseph defied all odds and managed to defeat every single remaining member, Leaving them to their own fate, And none of this would of been possible without his tricky battle style, A Style he typically uses to outsmart his foes, Predicting their next line and turning the tides in his favor without the enemy knowing it, And it won't take long before he predicts your next move to make this fight his victory.

Equipment

Shikamaru Nara

Kunai

Kunai's are used by practically every shinobi in the series, While Shikamaru generally doesn't use these, Usually trying to analyse the situation and plan everything out, It's always there for him to use to protect himself and put pressure on foes in close quarters combat

Shuriken
Shuriken are also commonly used weapons of shinobis, great for long-ranged defence and distraction, Not particularly useful for Shikamaru due to generally being a ranged fighter, However he can use these to keep the enemy back

Paper Explosives

Shinobi Generally carry these around to help keep the enemy away in various ways, The most well known tactic is to apply one to a kunai and throw it at an enemy, Killing them, However Shikamaru, Being the genius he is, can adapt to use these in other ways, as such with Hidan in the gif above, Sending him 6ft Down

Asuma's Chakra Blades

Inheriting these Blades from his Sensei, Shikamaru Used these blades against the Akatsuki duo of Hidan & Kakuzu, Using these blades to bind them in his Shadow Jutsu, As well as reminding them of whom they killed and who's blades they were, Shikamaru later passed these blades down to Asuma's Child, Mirai Sarutobi.

Shampoo

Shikamaru's Hair staying up when tied and never falling down strongly implies he either puts gel on it to hold it up or he literally does not fucking wash it, yikes temari.

Joseph's Trusty Old M1928 Thompson Submachine gun with a 50-round Drum Magazine, Nobody knows where the hell he even stored this, Or when he got this, but boy is this reliable

Clackers

A pair of Joseph's clackers containing two round steel balls attached to a string, The string is tied to a ring that goes on Joseph's finger. He can infuse these clackers with Hamon to deal lethal damage and he originally used these for their toughness to compensate with his prior Hamon use being weak.

Grenades


Explosives that Joseph used against Straizo, It didn't finish him off, But Joseph's use of these was enough to deal a ton of Damage to the former Hamon warrior.

Strings

Joseph Uses these strings to set them up and perform tricks that can win him the fight, An example of this is his fight against Esidisi, Using these ropes filled with Hamon to bind him and kill him, These are particularly useful if he can set them up right.

Shadow Imitation Technique

The Nara Clan's Signature Jutsu, This Jutsu involves the user manipulating their own shadow across the surface to merge it with their target's shadow. They can stretch their shadow out however it's limited range, 5 Minute Time limit and chakra usage means that the user has to act fast. However this doesn't pose a threat to Shikamaru, As he is quite adapt at using this technique to bind enemies for others to deal with, Or use it to his own advantage.

Shadow Neck Binding Technique

A More Aggressive variation of the shadow imitation technique, Shikamaru can use his shadow along a target's body, which, because the shadow has physical properties, the target can feel, Applies force to the opponents neck, essentially choking them. However like the shadow jutsu, This requires a great deal of chakra, Like every jutsu.

Shadow Sewing Jutsu

A Variant of the Shadow Imitation Jutsu, This version of the Jutsu uses Shadows to attack and bind the foe, Instead of just immobilising them and controlling with the shadow imitation technique. The caster can freely move while the enemy is restrained, and the restrained foe do not copy their movements

Shadow Clutch Technique

The user materialises their own shadow and increases its power, having it become similar to steel, The user then captures the target's shadow and forcibly moves them about. The strength of this technique varies on how much chakra is poured into it, Being able to move even giants if strong enough.

Shadow Imitation Shuriken Technique

By Infusing his own chakra into Asuma's Chakra blades, They recieve the effect of Shikamaru's shadow techniques. Shikamaru can pierce these blades into the enemies shadow and effectively paralyze them in place, He can also connect his shadow to said area to control the paralyzed opponent

Shadow Imitation Field Technique


 An advanced version of the Shadow Imitation Technique, Where the user can expand their shadow to cover a wide range, thereby reducing the chance of escape and being able to capture more opponents into its range without having to follow one shadow.

Black Spider Lily

After trapping the target with the Shadow Sewing Technique, Shikamaru can manipulate the shadow to bring them closer to themselves, Useful for finishing fights up close and personal.

A Form of energy used in an ancient form of martial arts which is known as Sendo, Through self-controlled Breathing, a person who has trained Hamon can produce an energy identical to the energy of the sun, which manifests as ripples throughout their body. This energy can be used in a wide range of techniques and can make quite literally, Anything a lethal weapon, Like...

Hamon Overdrive


The most basic use of Hamon, Where the user attacks with either their limbs or an object imbued with Hamon. Joseph can charge the Hamon into any part of his body, However overdrive is primarily done with the hands, As seen in the gif above where Joseph chops one of Dios flesh buds.

Hamon Hair Attack


Joseph Infuses his Hamon into stands of hair to make them tough enough to form a barrier, Being able to block incoming projectiles 

Hamon Beat


Joseph imbues both his fists and feet with the Ripple. To prevent himself from falling down a pillar covered with oil, Joseph flips himself upwards and uses his hands to stick to the blast of oil. He then slides across and propels himself upwards, gaining more distance than Joseph could from normally climbing or jumping, Joseph should be able to perform this on other surfaces as well, Not just limited to wet surfaces.

Ripple Beat Overdrive


Joseph Traps His Opponent with Strings And binds the strings with Hamon to deal damage to the enemy, Its strong enough to completely slice through someone's skin

Rebuff Overdrive

Joseph Charges Hamon into his elbows to deliver a powerful blow to the enemy, Joseph did this against wamuu to retaliate against him coming from above.

Zoom Punch

Similar to what his grandfather and other Hamon users can do, Joseph uses Hamon to dislocate his shoulder and arm to strike opponents from a longer range

Clacker Volley

Joseph uses his clackers Infused with Hamon against the enemy, Keeping the enemy from a distance by using these to slingshot the enemy over

Clacker Boomerang

Joseph Throws both pair of clackers infused with Hamon over at beam, pillar or any structure, Fooling the enemy into believing he's missed, However the clacker quickly swings back after getting caught into whatever structure it was attached to, striking the foe and catching them off guard

Body Control
Hamon Users have mastery over such a great amount of their body control that they are able to cast afterimages with their movements. Also, by sending Hamon through someone’s mind, Hamon users are able to control the movement of their body. Examples being when Jonathan used Hamon on Wang Chen, causing him to forcefully hold onto the ship’s screw shaft or causing Dobbie’s snakes to devour their master.

Water Walking
While it's certainly not perfect, Jonathan has been shown to use Hamon to somewhat repel the water beneath him like the same poles on a magnet, Joseph should be capable of doing the same.

Hamon Detection

By transferring Hamon through a liquid, it will pass through the users body and into the environment allowing them to detect the vibrations of life even through obstructions like walls.


Purification


Hamon isn’t called the miracle energy for no reason, with enough of it he can restore someone’s “humanity” after being zombified as seen with Jonathan & Bruford and use it on themselves such as when he ​​rejected a small amount of extract that causes zombification with Ripple. Jonathan can also casually send enough Hamon to release people from Dio's hypnosis. 

Joseph Should be capable of the exact same stuff, as His Hamon shouldn't be no different from what Jonathan's is, Let alone anyone elses Hamon

Healing

Hamon Users have the ability to heal their body or others in multiple way and are capable of doing things like reviving a dead flower with just a touch, In these examples Jonathan is seen removing the pain in their broken arms, fixing their own broken neck, and forcing poisons out of their own bodies


Hermit Purple

Joseph's Stand, Which he obtained somewhere in-between The End of Battle Tendency and The Start of Stardust Crusaders, It appears as multiple, purple, thorn covered vines which spawn from Joseph's Hands.

Joseph Can use Hermit purple offensively despite how it seems, Being strong enough to bind enemies and can be infused with Hamon to deal more damage, He can also use them to swing around like Spider-Man

However Joseph can also use this defensively, Being able to infused Hermit Purple with Hamon and infuse it around his body to protect himself from Dio, Acting like a high voltage wire around his body, Dio knew that had he touched Joseph, he would of incinerated.

Divination
By using Hermit purple in conjunction with any object or material, Joseph can display any information he wishes to see, Being able to produce psychic photos by destroying a camera, Produce live videos on a television, which could display multiple TV shows to form a coherent sentence, or even show a location, and even drew a map on an unpaved road with an X locating a desired item.

Joseph being able to create stuff is much more effective the closer he is to the target, When Joseph tried to get a photo of Dio when the two of them were in two completely different parts of the world, the picture was just an image of Dio shrouded in darkness, however when they were in the same country, the psychic photograph revealed a clear image of the building where Dio was staying.

Shikamaru Scaling to the Konoha 11 Shouldn't be that far fetched as Shikamaru is, well, A Member of the Konoha 11. All Members of the Konoha 11 have all fought alongside each other, Fought comparable dealy foes together and all of them share three people squads that have remained relatively unchanged Throughout the Years (Save for Team 7 with Sai), Shikamaru Should be relative with everyone stat wise except for Those in Team 7 (Save for Sai), Which he should only scale to them speed wise for a majority of their feats, At least in Shippuden, Along with characters who have amped their stats in some feats, However Shikamaru can downscale from these & By Boruto, Would already be stronger than most of these.
Sunagakure Siblings
Probably the closest outsiders to the leaf and the most friendly with them, The suna twins more than not shouldn't have any issues with scaling to anyone from Konoha, Gaara obviously however being stronger than virtually most of them, As in Boruto he suddenly has otsutsuki level stats. However Gaara is about relative to everyone else in shipudden, So scaling Shikamaru to Feats done by him in anything Pre-Boruto should be fine. This is also not considering the fact Shikamaru blew Temari's back ou-

The Akatsuki
Shikamaru scaling to everything The Akatsuki has done is almost impossible to argue, At least before Boruto. However Shikamaru can be scaled to the likes of Kakuzu and Hidan, Both of who are plenty strong enough in the Akatsuki, This is also supported by the fact that Shikamaru played a vital role in the defeat of both, Being the one to Bury Hidan himself. Shikamaru can downscale from a ton of feats however, As people relative to him were able to match and beat fellow Akatsuki members. Albiet just not all of them, However, By Boruto, Shikamaru was strong enough to hold down Two Otsutsuki, By That point which both Kinshiki & Momoshiki are FAR above The Akatsuki in strength, So Shikamaru can most likely scale to alot of these feats.

(Granted, Deidara could just be referring to Physical strength here)

The Next Generation
While Shikamaru in no way should be comparable to the Later feats Boruto & Kawaki showcase, As by that point they are FAR stronger than him, Shikamaru should be well above them before their True Kama progression states & Everyone else
Various Other Konoha Shinobi
Shikamaru Scaling to these other Shinobi or above should be no surprise, Asuma-Sensei included. However in the case of Sasuke, Only feats Pre-Rinnegan will be taken into account, As the power jump after he obtained it is too massive for Shikamaru to scale to anything, All Of Kakashi's Feats should also be fine not counting in DMS Kakashi

The Stardust Crusaders
Having fought with and against these men & Going on a 50 Day Trip to Egypt to defeat DIO, It's no surprise Joseph would be able to scale to the rest of the crusaders, and while Joseph may be quite older during Stardust Crusaders, His part 2 self could most certainly get the better end of scaling as Joseph never really got stronger after that, Noticeable with his aging, But he's still able to kick ass anyway


Dio Brando
Joseph was plenty fine holding out his own against DIO, And it wouldn't hurt to assume Joseph would be Above the likes of Jonathan by that point, As Joseph was able to deal with Threats comparable or above What Jonathan has deal with, But what does the first Jojo have to do with this?

If it wasn't obvious by this point, DIO has been using his Step-Brothers Body for his own after he lost his own, inserting his own head over Jojo's body and locking himself in a coffin for over 100 years, Which after DIO, Even with the restraints and before sucking Old Joseph off, Was still plenty strong, So Joseph scaling to DIO Should be fine enough, Downscaling at a bare minimum (This is elaborated more on Part 1 Section)

(Fun Fact: All Of The Women DIO Banged are all technically fucking Jonathan, Points down for Dio being a cuck and letting his brother fuck every women he met)
The Pillar Men
Considering that Joseph went toe to toe and defeated every single Pillar man, It wouldn't be
hard to see why Joseph should scale to them, Being able to go equal footing with about all of
them, save for Kars when he becomes the Ultimate Being, The Perfect Lifeform (ooh wonder who
also shares that title) However, Eventually Joseph outsmarted and banished Kars out of the earth.
The Part 2 Gang
Featuring a Brit, An Italian & A Nazi
Joseph scaling to the rest of his party shouldn't come as a surprise, Joseph has trained with Caesar
& Lisa Lisa, And was able to defeat foes they could not (Case In Point) And as time went on, Dealt
With Foes even at an old age, Decades after The Party had died.
(Debatable for Lisa Lisa, But is probably most likely dead by Part 4 Unless Hamon really Does do fucking wonders for your age, Given how Araki had confirmed Joseph was alive During the events of Stone Ocean, Which logically should make Joseph 91 Years Old, Then Again Its probably just from how well built Joseph is even at old age in Stardust Crusaders, Logically Making sense given how the better your Health is, The longer you live)
Part 1 Gang
Although Joseph has actually never met his grandfather or his master, It would be quite reasonable to assume that he would scale to him for a pretty simple reason.

 Jojo's body despite being used by DIO In Part 3, being used throughout Part 3 to battle the Joestars and do whatever dirty work he did, yada yada you know what he did. However this has nothing to do with DIO's vampiric influence over it, DIO Even says in his own words that JoJo's body refuses to fully succumb to him, requiring Joestar blood to fully synchronize, his left side specifically has a slower healing rate and he can't use it to its full potential, saying that it's currently weaker than his original one. The original one that Jonathan beats several times.

However this is not the only example we can use, Joseph is pretty obviously a less potent user of Hamon compared to Jonathan, The first thing we can look at is their training, Joseph took several weeks to nail down his training while Jonathan managed to do it within a couple of days, Along with Jonathan recieving all of a dying Will Zeppeli's Hamon, a Hamon master with decades of experience, There's also the case of a Lesser experienced Joseph performing good feats, so it wouldn't be off to say that Jonathan could match those.

(Unfortunately this movie is generally considered to be lost media and it is very dubious on whether its canon or not, This doesn't really impact the final verdict though)
Weaknesses

Shikamaru

Although despite being pretty much a genius in comparison to alot of others in Naruto, Shikamaru Is very much lacking in terms of powerful attacks, And his Shadow Jutsu consumes large amounts of chakra, It's also possible to just brute force out of it with enough physical force or just being able to absorb chakra

His unmotivated and lethargic nature is also a big drawback of his, Early on in the series this is pretty evident during the chunin exams arc, As while he basically had Temari beat, He forfeited as while in his own words was due to chakra burnout, It's more likely he quit because of his laziness and that he knew he would of had to fight in the later stages, which clashes with that personality of his. Later on when suna finally decided to uncover themselves and attack by putting everyone in the arena under a genjutsu, Shikamaru was able to snap out of it, However instead choosing to sleep rather than help out, Only getting up to help when he got caught by Sakura & Pakkun

There's also the problem with his Shadow Jutsu, Shikamaru actually needs a direct path for his Shadow to follow, For example: In his fight against Tayuya, Shikamaru couldn't just relay his shadow instantly on her due to the fact they were on seperate tree branches, Thus having to rely on getting his shadow to cross over from his tree, from the ground and up to Tayuya's end without her just moving out of the way, There's also the problem that Shikamaru actually needs the opponent within its range, otherwise it will literally just not work

Shikamaru also needs Insane amounts of focus to use his Jutsu, Chakra control being one of the fundemental basics of using a Jutsu (See Before Verdicts)

Shikamaru Hiden has stated that his Jutsu won't work in the dark, For Shadow's to appear, a light source must be available, hence why they appear during the day or when any light is nearby

There's also just the possibility of if his Jutsu DID work in the dark, He'd probably just end up killing himself from how much chakra would be drained instantly since his shadow would likely end up covering a large portion of the world if you think about it

Joseph

Despite being a trickster and being able to come up with ways to defeat his enemies on the spot, Joseph needs to be able to control his breathing to use Hamon, Hamon users need to be able to keep a steady breathing rhythm to use it, and if this is cut off in any way, It can overall just make you incapable of being able to use it, so even the slightest disruption can throw the breathing off course, And of course, Cutting their neck or ripping their throat or severe enough damage to the respiratory system and many others ways can just nullify that, although unlike Chakra control, Hamon doesn't have as many drawbacks, As Joseph only needs to be able to breathe, Compared to how much more concentration Naruto shinobi need to be able to use or mold chakra, What Joseph needs to do is much easier, As he just needs to be able to focus his breathing properly, Granted that's still a difficult task in battle

Joseph has neglected his training though throughout the years, By Part 3 he's become less skilful in its use, and he's pretty much a fossil by Part 4, Compared to his mother who even at 50, looked like a 20 year old

Also, Hermit Purple isn't really that good offensively, The vines are relatively weak and it's not really that good of a stand when compared to everything else. Joseph's main offense with his stand would be to pair it with Hamon to deal damage, This can work given how he can shield himself by wrapping Hermit Purple around himself then infusing it with Hamon.


Before The Verdicts

Chakra Control in Naruto
Or at least just some basic info on it

All Shinobi in Naruto need chakra to be able to perform any kind of Jutsu, And it needs an insane amount of focus to recharge fast enough in battle, Chakra is basically just the energy which a Shinobi needs when performing any Jutsu and is a combination of physical energy/stamina stored in the bodies cells. Granted while Chakra can recover overtime, It takes a Notable amount of time for it to actually recharge. Sakura goes over the basics of chakra in Chapter 17 of the original manga

Shinobi also need to be able to focus when performing Jutsu's by controlling their chakra, Otherwise it can be weakened or just not work at all, Effectively just making it useless. This is pretty commonly shown with early series Naruto fumbling every jutsu attempt in the academy due to his bad Chakra control
 Using too much of it can lead to life threatening consequences and even Death, Which has been shown multiple times throughout the series (Chiyo, Nagato & Kakashi for examples), All who pretty much died because of Chakra overuse, although in the case of Nagato & Chiyo, they put all of their chakra into one technique, Kakashi used whatever he had left.

Most Shinobi tend to only mould as much as they need, as using too much would waste the excess chakra and they would tire out faster from its loss, and if they don't put enough it won't be as effective which can cause mass problems during a fight, basically just making a very uneffective attack.

An attack can also be a bit too much for a shinobi. When Naruto first used his Rasen-Shuriken, It failed due to how much of a toll the Jutsu took on his body, and that it was also harming the user itself and had he kept using it, It would of done permanent damage to his body, Hence Tsunade had to label it a Kinjutsu (Forbidden Jutsu).

What can we infer for this for Shikamaru?

  • He cannot freely use his Jutsu's without having to be conservative about the time
  • He will literally die if he runs out of chakra (guess who doesn't die when they run out of energy)
  • Doesn't affect his shogi skills...

Infinite Speed Rohan

During Made In Heaven's Time acceleration, Pucci & His Stand were moving at such speeds the rest of the cast had trouble processing, In one such scene, We see a Manga Artist struggling to even get any work done due to his pens ink drying out before it even hit the paper, This same artist gets told someone is still hitting deadlines, and low and behold, It's Rohan Kishibe who was making those deadlines.

Made In Heaven's Speed is supported by the fact that in time, It will eventually accelerate time itself into infinity. This is further supported by Made in heaven's stand stats, being listed as infinite in speed. Once Time has hit the infinite mark, The universe will reset

However, Made in heaven's speed isn't infinite off the go, As it accelerates overtime, His speed will increase, and that speed helped him blitz and kill the entire Part 6 Cast, Jotaro included.

Now the case with Rohan being able to keep up with Made in heaven is pretty obvious, However Rohan was shown to do this Before Pucci killed everyone else, So whether Rohan was actually able to keep up with Made in heaven after that is dubious, However Rohan can definitely upscale the other MFTL Feats Jojo has, and likely solely him alone as nobody else was able to keep up with Pucci, But just not Infinite, This is also backed up by the fact Pucci was killed before the universe reset could even be triggered by Made in heaven, So he never managed to reach the Infinite point in time, So there shouldn't be anything supporting Rohan being able to break past the peak of Made in heaven's time acceleration

Which is a shame because that would of been REALLY funny, But then again araki would probably allow it given he's Rohan's #1 dickrider

The Sun

The sun's heat in Jojo can get scaled to either around Building to City (Also a nice island thing here as well) to Mountain to god knows what, The sun's heat is commonly tossed around within the VS community because on one hand, it can get high, and on the other its just simply building.

Where it gets to depends on how you interpret its heat, The Stardust crusaders were able to somewhat hold of against the sun as the sun's beam strikes were constantly hitting towards them, And Kakyoin was able to hold out after Hierophant green got hit by the rays. However wherever Kakyoin gets to by being able to survive the sun durability wise really just depends on how you buy that feat.

Urashiki Scaling
My favourite thing that you never saw in this blog

Urashiki Just so happens to be one of the many Otsutsuki in the series, but he just happens to be the only one who was NOT taken out by Adult Naruto or Sasuke, Infact he was taken out by a Base Boruto & Kid Naruto, Quite the shocker, Which would make everyone scaling to him right? Given how almost everyone would upscale a Kid Naruto & Base Boruto?

Not Quite

There's a couple of problems with this, But the big one is that the arc he got killed in was a Filler arc, So Obviously this is a completely useless talk right? 

Kind Of

One of the only things that's pushing Urashiki as a canon character was because of the 20th anniversary project, Kishimoto wished for an arc where Boruto could meet a younger Naruto for said project, and he had almost zero involvement in what actually happened in said arc, Urashiki as weird as it sounds has never appeared once in the Boruto Manga, And even if you wanted to say anime filler = canon nobody who was involved in the arc remembers what happened as Sasuke wiped everyone's memory anyway, Even Naruto confirms it when they return as he doesn't know shit, So any argument of it being canon is completely out the window.

However Urashiki was originally planned to appear in Boruto: Naruto The Movie As the third member in Momoshiki's group, However both him and Toneri were eventually cut from the film because it would of just gone over the film's planned length, So you can't really use that as an argument either because he was never shown

However Urashiki does appear in the first arc of the Boruto Anime, The Chunin Exams arc. A Completely Canon Arc...

...However again, The problem is that his part isn't in the Manga. The anime version incorporates some plot elements that Kishimoto originally had for the Boruto: Naruto The Movie, Which this arc is an adaptation of, Urashiki is not once shown in the actual Manga for this arc.

There's also the thing of Literally everyone Having Otsutsuki level stats if this was true (Yes even Zabuza, Chunin exam arc Fodders & Konohamaru) Which as funny as it would be, sounds incredibly weird.

Verdict


Stats

Like In every matchup, stats are a very big decider in figuring out who wins. While both certainly can scale to very peak stuff in their own respective verses, Not all of them do, But lets go over what we know

Strength

Looking at both's own scaling, Shikamaru can contend with and scale to FAR more powerful foes than anyone within the Jojo Universe. Contenders like Hidan & Kakuzu scale to far more powerful things such as being able to contend and defeat Matatabi completely unleashed by it's Jinchuuriki Yugito Nii with both looking unharmed by the end of it, Tailed beast bombs are clocking in at Multi-Cont and Shikamaru scaling to this would be completely fine given how he was able to contend with and defeat Hidan, he would also scale to characters who have contended with the Akatsuki and defeated them as well, and by the time in Boruto when he's older, He's gotten more powerful to the point he's strong enough to pin down two Otsutsuki members with his Shadow Jutsu.

Joseph however is still plenty strong however, He can be scaled to many Jojo feats that can get to the City Block - Town range, Feats such as Dio splitting the clouds, Planet waves and Dark Blue Moon get within this range of power, and other calculations such as The sun can get MUCH Higher than these ranges, However none of these get into the ranges that Shikamaru can get to, So this very easily goes to Shikamaru

Both are plenty fast enough by themselves, Shikamaru as a kid was able to keep up with Chunin level threats such as Temari, Kin & Dosu, And being a freshly made Chunin, was fighting and keeping up with Tayuya & Her summons, someone who even the most elite Jonin couldn't defeat when they activated their second curse mark stages, One of these being Raido Namiashi, One of the Hokage's elite bodyguards. As a teen, Shikamaru was able to keep pace with Hidan & Kakuzu and as an adult was able to dodge a kick from delta, Bind every Kage & Their assistants before even Naruto could react and Restrain Kinshiki in time before he swung his axe, Shikamaru can also scale to people such as Team 10 Who were keeping pace with a much weaker Kisame Hoshigaki with ease & Gaara who was fast enough to block The Raikage from getting Sasuke

Joseph Is Very fast in his own right, Do you remember the inFAMOUS (Sorry) Silver Chariot? The same stand that everyone adores in the VS Community for it's speed? An Older Joseph was able to react to a sneak attack from Silver Chariot by blocking it with his metal hand very early in Stardust Crusaders, Also being able to catch Jotaro at speeds comparable to hierophant green. A Much younger Joseph along with Caesar were able to react to a beam of light from the red stone of aja, Getting in at around 2.324c, On multiple occasions he went toe to toe with the Pillar men and won on every occasion but the first with Wamuu. And Joseph, who's knee was fucking melting and was about to die to Kars, Reacted fast enough to pull out the red stone of aja on Kars on pure instinct.

In conclusion: While speed has a very close gap to it, both being fast in their own rights with Joseph holding a potential lead in speed, Shikamaru Horribly dominates strength wise and the speed gap isn't all that big enough for Shikamaru not to keep up with Joseph.

Arsenal

Neither really have a big set of arsenal to use, With them only having about few abilities to use, However they are very adept with them.

Shikamaru's Shadow Jutsu is quite adept, Being able to be used almost anywhere due to just how much shadow's exist in the world, And if he could lock his Jutsu onto Joseph once, He can win quite easily, Simply binding him in place and having him follow his moves or restraining him. Said shadow can be manipulated however Shikamaru wishes.

This Jutsu is more dangerous in a shady area like a forest or in a moderately dark place, as there are more shadows to connect to, However it's got a drawback in very dark places, Outdoor areas with not many surroundings or just flat out in the night, One for the lack of shadows to use and the other for it just straight up not working in the night

Joseph has a lot more to use though, Being quite well rounded in the use of Hamon and having a stand of his own, albeit quite wack, Hamon serves as energy to damage foes and can be used quite well, Being able to imbue it with your own body to attack foes with more force, Or even objects to deal more damage, Alternatively Hamon can straight up just shut off your organs and can go directly for the heart, which can flat out net Joseph a win, Something Shikamaru can't necessarily counter

Hermit purple is also quite good on its own despite how it kind of is. Joseph can use this like a wrecking force to throw things around, Restraining or straggling foes And even just for simple defence by wrapping it around his body, Hamon included as well to imbue it with. it's also a decent thing for doxing finding people, as it could track down Dio's Location, it being unclear due to his actual location, The problem is sometimes he kind of needs something to actually produce a photo with in the form of technology, And he also needs to be nearby the specific person if he's doing something like a photo of their locations.
 
It's still possible to do though and it can basically give Joseph whatever info he desires, And he doesn't really need tech to do so as he managed to draw a map in dust on an unpaved road, with an X Marking the exact location of tar, Which would later be used to defeat the empress

Overall, Both have a quite limited arsenal, But how they use it is very adept and they can use it for how they wish, Both being able to use it efficiently like they have more in their arsenal than it seems.

Tertiary Factors

The Biggest draw to this matchup is Intellect, Both are kinda just widely known to be INSANELY smart in battle, which makes it incredibly hard to decide who is smarter, However if we had to choose one person to be the smarter one, We'd likely give this to Joseph combat wise.

Shikamaru is quite easily the smarter of the two generally, However that isn't too useful in situations like this, which while you would need brains over brawn more times than not, Knowing your times table's wouldn't be useful going against an incredibly dangerous person would it? Joseph was able to go toe to toe and completely outsmart and stratergize on the spot on how to defeat Wamuu & Esidisi, With Wamuu Joseph was quite literally on the verge of dying if he didn't react fast enough, And it was his quick thinking on the spot that let him find a way to completely destroy Wamuu's body. 

He was also able to completely outsmart Kars in his ultimate lifeform state, Being the peak of evolution didn't help against someone like Joseph, Even though he had an IQ stated of 400 And flawlessly used Hamon despite never using it before. While Shikamaru was able to stratergize and defeat foes like Tayuya, Kakuzu & Hidan, They are just merely still human with good abilities, Tayuya was actually going to likely beat Shikamaru had Temari not saved him, Kakuzu got absolutely washed by Hashirama + Hidan is a fucking idiot for all the yap on immortality he does which just cost him getting buried alive, And We haven't seen Shikamaru do alot as the 8th Hokage so far, so we can't comment on that, Although he certainly is smarter book wise, Joseph has more tricks up his ass to pull out in battle to secure him this spot, although it certainly can go the other way as its quite hard to nail down who's the smarter of these two.

Experience however should go to Shikamaru, Having been a Shinobi for the majority of his life, He's been on the battlefield dealing with threats almost all the time and he's dealt with more dangerous threats than Joseph Has. Even as a genin he was up against Jonin level opponents and his brains is able to pull him out of tight spots. Inbetween 5 Years he was able to also deal with the Akatsuki and was even put in the position as chief strategist of the Entire Allied Shinobi Forces In the 4th Great Ninja war, And many years later, the right hand man of the sixth and seventh Hokage, before eventually becoming the Eighth himself, Ultimately rightfully earning his recognition as one of Konoha's greatest shinobi. Ultimately While Joseph has proven to deal with greater foes with his intellect, Shikamaru's far range of experience nets him this catagort

In conclusion, Both are plenty smart intellectually, With both being plenty smart in combat, Joseph arguably beats out Shikamaru in combat, While Shikamaru wins in general Book smarts, But experience as Jojo is, It doesn't quite catch up to Shikamaru's Years of experience.

Conclusion

As tricky and hard as these people are to read, And Despite the many advantages the other holds against the other guy, This battle ultimately goes in favour of The 8th Hokage, Stat wise, He holds an insane edge Strength wise and while speed does go in favour of Joseph, Shikamaru can still match said lower-mid ends and would be above other feats Joseph was capable of doing, Shadow Jutsu can also instantly get Joseph and it would likely just be game over.

But for something like this, You'd also have to consider their brains & brawns, And while you couldn't exactly pick a decisive winner for a category like that in a matchup like this since both are almost identically the best at that combat wise, Shikamaru certainly has more experience on the actual battlefield, Something that would best over Joseph's more tactical play in a fight.

Joseph Still holds many advantages though, with Hamon letting his kit be more versatile than Shikamaru's, He could certainly hold his own for a while, And being faster supports that. He could also just rush in a directly shut off Shikamaru's Organs which would instantly lend him the win as Shikamaru doesn't really hold any real resistance against that

But even then, Shikamaru has better ways of keeping Joseph at bay and with the massive gap in strength, As well as Joseph not really likely to be going for that, as it's not something Hamon users do often and the instances it was used were on dying people, It would be more likely to give this to Shikamaru as he has better ways of ending the fight compared to Joseph

While New York's JoJo was certainly quite the unpredictable fella, With Hamon being insanely versatile and having ways of getting the advantage not many others could predict, Shikamaru was just as tricky as he was in a fight, And he had the Strength, General battlefield experience and Tricks to Overdrive This JoJo to his grave. What A Drag.

The Winner Is Shikamaru Nara.
